48 Shluchim from 25 countries in Europe and Central Africa, all of whom serve small and isolated Jewish communities on their own, met on Sunday in the city of Girona, Spain.
The conference marked the renewal of the Jewish community in the historical city of Girona.
The event’s Guest of Honor was the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Mr. Carles Puigdemont.
This Kinus was a first of its kind, enabling the Shluchim from smaller countries to partake not only in the worldwide Kinus which takes place annually in New York, but also in a more local, regional one.
The Kinus was organized by the Worldwide Shluchim Office under the auspices of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky and Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch.
Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berl Lazar, attended together with his friend, philanthropist Shimon Aminov, who renewed the Jewish community in Girona through the local Shliach, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Rozenberg, who also hosted this special Kinus.
The Kinus was opened by the Shliach to Barcelona, Rabbi Dovid Leibersohn, with Guest of Honor the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Mr. Carles Puigdemont.
During the three days of the Kinus, participants discussed the development of Jewish institutions, how to work with local governments, and especially how to expand the activities that are available for the thousands of Jewish citizens in these countries.
They visited the Ramban’s kever and prayed in the central Chabad Shul, which used to be the home of Rabbeinu Yona, as was explained to them by the local Shliach Rabbi Rozenberg, who also described Chabad’s activities with the many tourists who visit this historical city.
