Rabbi Yitzchok Hakohen Hendel, Rabbi of the Chabad community in Montreal who was one of the Previous Rebbe's shluchim to Montreal passed away Friday. He learned in Tomchei Temimim in Otwosk, Warsaw and later in Shanghai when he fled Poland during WWII. He arrived to Canada with a group of 8 students-shluchim and established the Chabad institutions in the city. He was the Rosh Yeshiva and head of the Rabbinical Court for many years.
He passed away at the age of 90. His wife Sheina Chava passed away last year. They are survived by sons and daughters: Rabbi Zalman Eliyahu Hendel of Tsfas, Rabbi Yisroel Yosef Hendel of Migdal Haemek, Mrs. Sarah Leah Plotkin, Mrs. Rivkah Cohen, Mrs. Malka Vilensky and Mrs. Shterna Berkowitz of Montreal and Mrs. Chaya Devorah Levetansky of Santa Monica, California.
The funeral will pass the yeshia on Westbury Street at 12 PM Sunday
